We want to eliminate most errors before cards are printed. We try our best to catch everything during prepress operations but occassionally miss something. Following are the most common errors people have when setting up their digital file for print.

1. The default "blue" in Corel Draw prints purple. To select a blue, please choose 100C, 60M, 0Y, 0K. Corel's default blue is 100C, 100M, 0Y, 0K which always prints purple. The rule of thumb when you want a blue to print consistantly blue is to have at least 30% difference between Cyan and Magenta.

2. Never select a color mix that is at the cusp of 2 colors. For example 100C, 75M, 0Y, 0K will print blue and sometimes purple. We do gang printing of all our cards so color does shift 5-10% on a weekly basis. So if you select a color that is at a point of change then you may or may not get what you want.

3. In Corel.. select colors in CMYK format. If colors are not selected in CMYK format and left in RGB format then most colors print lighter than they should by up to 20%.

4. Do not leave hidden boxes or text behind layers or other colors or text boxes. Get rid of any access stuff that is not being used in your file. Most common in Illustrator and Corel Draw.

5. Use 100K mix only for text on light background... not a rich black mix of 80C, 80M, 80Y, 100K. Rich black should only be used for LARGE solid backgrounds. If you only have SMALL solid areas on your card.. be it one, two or many... then use 50C, 0M, 50Y, 100K instead.

6. Do not forget BLEED. Bleed is required on any card that does not have a white background. So if you have a photograph or a different color that you want to go to the edge of your card. For business card finished size is 3.5 x 2". So anything that touches the 3.5 x 2" edge should be bled off to 3.625 x 2.125". See templates for more details.

7. Files should not be setup at 72dpi. Set files up at 300dpi in Photoshop. Any images used should be at 300dpi quality at the size they are being used in Illusatrator, Corel Draw, Quark, etc. Never use RGB or Lab colors. Just CMYK and grayscale.

8. Last but not least.. we are here to help you. So if you have any setup questions... call or email us. We want you to be happy with your cards the first time they are printed.
